This has to be one of my all-time favorite books. Suzane Collins shaped this series beautifully and the story line always seems to surprise and excite you while staying, well, perfect. If you haven’t read any of the Hunger Games books yet, what you need to do is go to the store and buy all three. Your not wasting your money because once you start the first one you’ll be happy you saved another trip to the store or a week waiting of shipping for the others. Catching Fire seems to get right back to where it left on in the first one. It’s simply put one of the greatest series of this decade.

Against all odds, Katniss Everdeen has won the annual Hunger Games with fellow district tribute Peeta Mellark. But it was a victory won by defiance of the Capitol and their harsh rules. Katniss and Peeta should be happy. After all, they have just won for themselves and their families a life of safety and plenty. But there are rumors of rebellion among the subjects, and Katniss and Peeta, to their horror, are the faces of that rebellion. The Capitol is angry. The Capitol wants revenge.
It’s been 75 years after the uprising that led to the US being separated into 13 districts, and not quite a year after Katniss and Peeta “won” The 74th Annual Hunger Games, and although they live in “luxury” compared to others in District 13, life isn’t easy. Katniss gets back to hunting and trying to fulfill her duties as she and Peeta travel through Panem’s Districts with rebellion nearly coming to a full head, Katniss unwittingly continues to give people in other Districts hope.
It’s been announced that for the 75th Hunger Games, two representatives from each District will be sent to the Games. Peeta and Haymitch are selected, but Katniss steps in for Haymitch. Then they meet the tributes from the other Districts and the Games really begin. The second book is very good, but may be a let down for some who are expecting the intensity of 1 and the drama of the third book. It’s easy to get frustrated with Katniss, but you have to remember that she is only 16/17 years old and thrust into a role that she never expected or really wanted to be in.
