In Cosmos, the late astronomer Carl Sagan cast his gaze over the magnificent mystery of the Universe and made it accessible to millions of people around the world. Now in this stunning sequel, Carl Sagan completes his revolutionary journey through space and time.
Future generations will look back on our epoch as the time when the human race finally broke into a radically new frontier--space. In Pale Blue Dot Sagan traces the spellbinding history of our launch into the cosmos and assesses the future that looms before us as we move out into our own solar system and on to distant galaxies beyond.
The exploration and eventual settlement of other worlds is neither a fantasy nor luxury, insists Sagan, but rather a necessary condition for the survival of the human race.
A must read. This somewhat overlooked book is one of Sagans best. The descriptions of findings from the voyager missions, such as data on Neptune and its moons, are hypnotizing. Also great discussion on deprovincialization in the early parts of the book.
This is by far the best book to own when it comes to astronomy, space, the history of space exploration and its implications and much more! The illustrations and photographs make this book stand out for its depth and make it wonderful.
Certainly a great deal of technology has changed and we have collectively increased our knowledge of the solar system since this book was written, but even with that Carl Sagan's unique way of describing the magic of the universe never gets old. He is able to touch on the wonder we all have about space. I highly recommend this book.
