This is one of my absolute favorite books and worthy of not only reading but re-reading.
Sarah is out gardening and minding her own business early one morning when she discovers several men staking and trying to kill another man. She decides to intervene and help the man. Roland cannot believe that this small woman knocked out two of his attackers to help him. Now they must hurry and get him loose before the sun rises. What Sarah doesn't know is Roland is an Immortal Guardian.

Once safely inside Roland has to convince her he doesn't need 911. Roland is so taken by her kindness and beauty. He manages to call for help and knows that he has to keep her safe by taking her with him because the vampires who were going to kill him will come back for her. Help arrives and Sarah agrees to go with him because she too has felt the connection they share. One their way out they are attacked by over a dozen vampires with glowing eyes. Sarah freaks out because Roland's eyes are also glowing. She runs but is injured by one of the attackers and collapses when Roland comes to her rescue. He is terrified she will run screaming when she awakens but she doesn't. In fact she lets him explain and she decides she is safe. They are once again attacked in the middle of the day when sleeping. Roland's first thought is Sarah betrayed him because more than one loved on has in the past. She lets it slide for now because they have to get away. She helps to rescue him again and gets him to safety. Along the way Sarah is introduced to many other Immortal Guardians. She wants to share her life with Roland even if she cannot be safely changed but first they must discover who wants him dead.
More action and drama unfolds and they are able to solve to mystery. They are then told Sarah is a Gifted One and can be changed. She quickly agrees to become one of them. Guardians worldwide are in awe of her and her willingness to share a life with Roland and become the first to willingly change. Roland never dreamed he would find a HEA after nearly 1000 years. Definitely 5 stars.
