Children eight and up will enjoy this conversational but information-packed introduction to astronomy and stargazing, which includes the achievements of the great scientists, the history of space exploration, the story of our solar system, the myths behind the constellations, and how to navigate the night sky. Whimsical color illustrations on every page and handy definitions and sidebars help engage younger readers and develop their interest. The special star wheel helps locate stars and planets from any location at any time of year. This is the third in Black Dog & Leventhal's successful series including The Story of the Orchestra and A Child's Introduction to Poetry.
Bought this for Christmas for my eight year old to go along with her Celestron Astromaster 70 AZ Refractor Telescope. This a informative yet easy to read book. We have really enjoyed reading this book and learning about what we should be looking for through our telescope.
Both children and adults will enjoy this lovely book. It offers a fun and interesting introduction to many topics having to do with astronomy and familiarizes readers with some of the most influential historical figures in the field. Unlike many books that handle the astronomy, this one offers very approachable hands-on insight - an excellent way to spark interest in other topics like mathematics, physics, chemistry, ecology, and astrophysics. Illustrations are colorful and relevant, and the writing is clear and lively.

This was great for us older children, The explanations were great the illustration were great, and as a companion to my new aquired telescope this was handy to have. Too bad they named it " A Child's..." anyone who wants to know and is not offended in reading a story with this title will enjoy and learn.
This is the book to get if your child is into the Stars.... not Hollywood stars, but the heavenly stars. This book is factual and written beautifully with great illustrations. It comes with an actual "star finder" and glow in the dark stars. It is a great book!
