The charming town of Last Chance, SC treasures those that live there and welcomes newcomers, although any newbies have to go through tough interventions by certain long-standing citizens and will be advised, whether they want it or not. Mike comes to Last Chance with his newly acquired five-year-old niece, Rainbow, and cat Tigger in tow. His sister Angie was killed and Mike was named Rainbow’s legal guardian until permanent custodians could be found. He had been living in Las Vegas as a professional gambler and as a day trader. Mike chose to bring them to Last Chance, as his half-brother, Reverend Timothy Lake, with his reputable profession, would be a better bet than himself to raise Rainbow. Of course Tim had no idea that he had a half-brother. And as he is single, Mike and the town will insist that a wife is needed to complete the new family. Mike meets Charlene when he and Rainbow take Tigger to the town vet. They end up residing next to each other in an apartment building. Add to this some adorable kittens left outside Charlene’s door. Rainbow becomes adored by Mike, Charlene, Tim, a cat, kittens, and most of the town, but all have their own struggles in the life that was thrown at them. Who will end up raising Rainbow? This charming, heartwarming addition can be read as a standalone, but after reading Last Chance Family, you will most likely want to go back and read all of Hope Ramsay’s Last Chance series.
