You wouldn't think a novel set in a post-apocalyptic future where nearly everyone is living on the edge could be described as "fun", but that is the best way to describe FIREFIGHT. The second novel in a trilogy about "Epics" - superhumans who gained powers which immediately corrupted them - the story picks up shortly after STEELHEART (well, technically after MITOSIS which was an interim novella but is not necessary to enjoy the book). The heroes have liberated Newcago (New Chicago - get it?) and set their sights on liberating New Babylon (i.e. Manhattan) from the tyrannical clutches of another superpower tyrant. This one controls water and has gathered a team of lesser Epics around her to vex our heroes, and has a master plan whose goal they won't see coming.

This series is not "great art" but it is a fun ride. Plenty of twists and turns, and a main character whom we care about. The romance is a bit thin, but that really didn't bother me. This is an action-adventure movie, after all. Highly recommended.
