Good character development and good mystery. Small English village, vicker, his American wife. They are newlyweds & she is trying to fit in with the tight knit community. A run down large manor house, a stranger in town, & someone is found dead in the old cemetery next to the church. Guess who the main suspect is? Sometimes fitting in isn't always easy. Very interesting villagers and you might guess the culprit, then again, you might be surprised by all the twists &turns. Definitely a cozy, but one I would highly recommend.
A mystery man's identity discovered by translating his poems from the Italian. A vicar 's bride who discovers she has a knack for comforting children by teaching them to make lunch... not to mention a knack for solving a murder when she's the prime suspect. American scholar Ellie Kent may be new to the English countryside, but author Alice Boatwright layers each discovery of village life with detail as we settle in to a most unsettling sequence of events.

When Ellie Kent moves to an English village with her new husband Graham, she fears the villagers will always see her as that young American who snared their attractive vicar during his sabbatical in California. But this challenge is nothing compared to what happens when she stumbles across a body in the churchyard. The villagers insist they don’t know the murdered man, so suspicion mounts that the killer must be the incomer – the vicar’s new wife. As evidence piles up against her, Ellie tries to stay one step ahead of the police to unravel a decades-old literary mystery and love story. Will others die before she can solve it? And what will be left of her new life and marriage, even if she succeeds?
This is a four and a half star book. It is not just a mystery, but a novel and it is very well written. It has interesting characters and a very well thought out mystery that is complex and keeps you wondering. One can not help but wonder what it would be like to come from the US and become the wife of a minister and try to fit into a small community in England. Tough way to start a new life and a new marriage.

About the Author
Alice K. Boatwright's new book Under an English Heaven launches the Ellie Kent mystery series. Published in May 2014, this mystery set in the English Cotswolds has as its heroine a divorced professor of English literature from San Francisco who favors wearing "black and more black" but has found herself, through the vicissitudes of love, the wife of a charming English vicar.
Her adjustment problems quickly move past understanding the difference between cookies and biscuits, when she stumbles over a body in the churchyard -- and becomes the chief suspect. An ex-pat, she discovers, can be rude; and a vicar's wife hears secrets. With these tools -- plus her years of experience doing research -- she sets out on another unexpected new career path: detective.
